OUR HOME CAN TIGRES/WEEKLY JOURNAL
Weekly journal.
What we did, what we are doing, and what we are planning next, week by week.
The horses and the land
It rained most of the week. Droppings are cleared as soon as the rain allows, several times a day, so the ground doesn't stay wet underfoot.
Xabi attached a net, given to us by a friend, Eva, over two of the four feeders — the covered troughs we use in the rain, instead of feeding on the ground. The horses now eat more slowly, and less food falls to the floor. We'd like to do the same to the other two.
At the end of October, using the Circle of Life's first support, we bought what the horses needed going into winter: a coat for Shanti, whose skin is still recovering from summer; four head collars; metal curry combs, strong enough to lift the hard shell that forms on a wet, sandy coat, which an ordinary brush can't do; tiger balm, to help keep flies off; and aluminium wound spray, for small cuts and scrapes.
We also cut back the fig tree. The figs, left up through the rain, had been drawing flies for weeks — the horses were covered in them around the head. We bought one fly mask and one fly fringe so far; we need at least two more and haven't found them locally yet.
New boots for mucking out in the rain, for Marzena and Xabi — the old ones had worn through.
The association
Xabi and Marzena are working on the statutes. Juan has agreed to join as the third person, as secretary — he's from this region, and it was Juan who first put us in touch with the owner when this place became available. We're glad to have someone from Ibiza itself with us.
Documents are being printed today — there's no printer yet, and the computer in use is borrowed, lent by Carrie, after Marzena's own screen broke. A screen came from Marcos, but it doesn't work — we still need a working screen, and really a computer. We also need a monitor with an HDMI input, even just borrowed, to connect to the broken laptop and get the photos and files off its disk.
We're also looking for a gestor — someone who can tell us whether the statutes are ready, and what to do next — through other local associations, including Casita Verde.
And we're asking around whether anyone would like to live alongside the horses here long term, whether or not they can help with the work.
Next
Writing to the Ayuntamiento of Sant Joan de Labritja about the cement floor for the stable — the plan already named under What Our Herd needs — and finding cement and someone to lay it.
Meeting the gestor, opening the association officially, opening a bank account for it. Finishing the INvisible IBIZA site and connecting the two sites to each other. Moving this website to new hosting, so it stops being blocked and the full day-by-day calendar can open.
And, every day underneath all of this: feeding, cleaning, and caring for the horses.
