NEWS/THE OPEN BOOK
The open book.
An open view of Horse Presence.
This page fills as the work goes on. Nothing here is invented, so where there are no figures yet, it says so.
Money
How we share the money: first the horses, until their needs for this month and the next are covered. Then the costs of the land.
Marzena coordinates the project and keeps this open book and the website up to date. She gives this work as her gift: about 50 hours a month, unpaid.

Figures begin with the first contributions. When a month spends more than came in, the remaining shows a minus. We lend our own money and our own hours when needed, and they appear here until they are given back.
What Our Herd needs
- November 2026
- Insurance, forage, antiparasitic treatment, farrier, water and pienso (compound feed). Silver aluminium spray, for wounds.
- December 2026
- Insurance, forage, water and pienso (compound feed). Winter rugs, warm horse jackets: one for Madre, perhaps one for Kashi Pushi too, or for all three.
- The stable
- A cement floor, soon, before the heavy rain and the cold, because the floor gets wet. First we write to the Ayuntamiento of Sant Joan de Labritja about the project and wait for their yes. Then cement, and someone to lay it.
- Next spring
- We would like to rent about 30,000 m² more land: the neighbouring land, which has trees and so more shade. There we will need fencing, a shelter and a stable.
These are current needs and plans, not promises. They change as circumstances change.
The land
- Land currently cared for: about 10,000 m², given by Marzena and Xabi, with fencing and a stable.
- Land being restored.
- Current land needs, every month: keeping the fences and the stable in good repair, about 10 hours; clearing stones and plants, about 5 hours; preparing the manure for collection (apart from cleaning the paddocks), about 10 hours. About 25 hours a month in all, done by Xabi.
- Next land priorities: now, in winter, the cement floor in the stable; in summer, more shade; next year, renting more land.
Our Herd
For each horse: where she is now, what she needs, her care, what we notice about her health and wellbeing, what has changed, and what we are learning from her.

What didn't work
Horse Presence is an experiment. Some things will work. Some won't. We will document both.

What we don't know yet
We don't want to turn questions into answers before the evidence exists.

Horse needs, land needs, research, infrastructure, documentation, people, new places and what they will cost.
This is where Horse Presence is today. It will change. We'll keep showing you how.
